The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Logistics Supervisor to join our team at our Bishop Auckland site.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll help keep our logistics operation running safely, efficiently and effectively. You’ll supervise the day-to-day activities of our Drivers and Service Agents, ensuring we deliver an excellent service to our customers while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and operational performance.
You’ll work closely with the Logistics Manager and wider site leadership team, using operational data to identify improvements, optimise routes, control costs and develop your team.
If you enjoy leading people, solving operational challenges and finding better ways of working, this is an opportunity to have a real impact within a busy logistics environment.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead, support and develop a team of Drivers and Service Agents, creating a positive, high-performing working environment.
- Coordinate day-to-day logistics activity to ensure our customers receive a reliable and high-quality service.
- Ensure driver, vehicle and transport operations remain compliant with Operator Licence and other relevant legal requirements.
- Monitor fleet maintenance, vehicle documentation and driver compliance.
- Review operational and transport data to identify trends, resolve issues and improve performance.
- Drive route optimisation, improving efficiency, profitability and reducing unnecessary agency driver usage.
- Manage people processes including performance, absence, development, driver assessments and regular feedback.
- Investigate operational issues and implement practical corrective actions.
- Support budget management and identify opportunities to control logistics costs.
- Champion Health & Safety and ensure appropriate standards are maintained across the operation.
- Drive continuous improvement through LEAN principles, 5S and smarter ways of working.
- Deputise for the Logistics Manager when required.
What We're Looking For
We’re looking for someone who combines strong operational organisation with confident people leadership.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within logistics, transport, distribution or a similar operational environment.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- A good understanding of Health & Safety and operational compliance.
- The ability to organise both yourself and others in a fast-paced environment.
- Confidence using data to understand performance and identify improvements.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across different teams.
- A proactive, flexible and solutions-focused approach.
- Experience of continuous improvement or LEAN methodologies would be advantageous.
- Transport or fleet-management experience would be particularly beneficial.
